one last gasp re. copyright issues

When we were talking earlier, I forgot to link to this well-researched site on copyright issues for collage artists. When I read her info, at first I was a little freaked out. But after calming down, I was like, "Oh well." I must admit, it hasn't influenced my artistic practice very much. I do use lots of images from non-vintage sources.

I'll be curious to hear y'all's further thoughts, if you have any...

  1. It really doesn't worry me atall as most of my work is hardly ever published. Boomerang printed up a few of my collages for their freebie postcards and never any problem with them- maybe because they were free - I don't know. It's probably the big companies like Disney and Coca-cola who have lawyers working full time on this stuff that one should avoid. Warhol seemed to get away with it!

  2. B-b-but appearance on the Web is publication, in the eyes of the law. Those statements in books about "no part of any of this can be reproduced...."-blah-blah always include the word "electronically."

  3. I suppose , but I see the web side of things as being very ephemeral and throw away. After 8 years on the web I've not been challenged once for any of the collages I've made so can't get excited by copyright issues.
