Beach Party in the Shadow of The Cliff House

The famed Cliff House Restaurant, built 1896 in San Francisco, California by Adolph Sutro was a 7-story Victorian chateau called by some "The Gingerbread Palace".  It survived the 1906 earthquake but burned to the ground September 7, 1907.

  1. Great job on the fascinating array of colorful people! I'm tryin' to imagine what the woman w/ the outstretched arms is doing: is she hailing the Gingerbread Palace, or sleepwalking in the daytime? =laugh=

    1. That is actually an antique chromolithograph of Antigone -- paid $3 for her at local thrift store -- a bookplate. To me it almost looks like she is placing The Cliff House in position (as if it is a dollhouse) or shoring it up!

    1. Thanks Ron. The Easter Eggman is a Barnum & Bailey circus act (cut from my big book of the circus) and I don't remember exactly how that egg figured into the act but I think it might have involved the high wire!
