Open-air Museum

I love open-air museums and sculpture gardens. Here we can see two folks visiting an open-air museum with giant human-plants.

Shocked!

This visitor was SHOCKED by seeing the curious portraits of the museum of contemporary art!

This is a rather unusual collage for me, I´m more a minimalistic one. And that´s why I decided to show a third piece which I´ve made for this theme  (because the first one was just a starter).

Curious Sea Creature

Background is antique marbleized endpaper.  Face of bearded man is from an antique print.  I own many books on shells and that's where the rest is from.

Using the Image of "Toto Tutu the Two-Headed Dog" on Dogwood Brand Canned Tomatoes Tripled Sales

That's a Norwich Terrier with the head of a Norfolk Terrier on it's posterior. Heh heh.  The background is from a book of vintage canned goods labels.

On the way to the museum

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

My name is Maya and I am an artist living and working in London,UK. I am a surrealistic painter and collage artist, which means that I use real objects and put them into unusual places in order to create new "reality". I am 24 years old and I have been creating art for 20 years, I went to an Art Academy and done various art classes.

With my collages I mainly try to explore the issues that we face, as human beings in our modern society. I use different magazines, books and vintage newspaper in order to create them. I use both current issues as well as old ones starting from 1941 in order to show that some of the issues that we were facing back then we still face today.

I get my inspiration from everywhere, it just comes like a breeze.. What mostly inspires me are my life experiences and just generally other people and their experiences, as well as other artists.

Here are some examples of my art collages:

Woman in love

Family Secrets

Untitled 2

To find out more about me and see more of my art you can visit my blog: Artisticsideoflife.wordpress.com

I am so excited to be part of this blog and I can't wait to post my weekly collages in response to a theme.

All the best,
Maya

Mr. Moon's Curious Collection

(What a good way to continue using up those pesky scraps!)

Theme of the Week - Museum of Curiosities

Or maybe the Art Gallery of Surprises?  Let your imagination run riot and curate an exhibition or cabinet of wonder full of strange things that you might find in a museum of your own making.  Have fun!

Cinderella waits for the other shoe to drop.

I really struggled with this week's theme, I still want to work with scraps!

About Me: Jonathan Brant

I have been working with collage and assemblage for about 3 years now. It all got started at an art camp July 2011. I was born in 1998 and have always loved art. A lot of people think you have to be older to be considered a real artist but I've sold and shipped lots of my works across the U.S. and I also have an etsy. I would say I make more assemblage boxes than collages but I love both mediums. My main inspiration comes from Pinterest, YouTube, blogs (kollage kit) and other Internet sources. I love old/vintage ephemera and have about 200 books in my basement studio. I mainly make artist trading cards but do bigger scaled collage as well. I can't wait to see what comes out of this experience!

So excited,

Cat Bride

Aesop wrote:

The gods were once disputing whether it was possible for a living being to change its nature. Jupiter said “Yes,” but Venus said “No.” So, to try the question, Jupiter turned a Cat into a Maiden, and gave her to a young man for a wife. The wedding was duly performed and the young couple sat down to the wedding-feast. “See,” said Jupiter, to Venus, “how becomingly she behaves. Who could tell that yesterday she was but a Cat? Surely her nature is changed?”

“Wait a minute,” replied Venus, and she let loose a mouse into the room. No sooner did the bride see this than she jumped up from her seat and tried to pounce upon the mouse. “Ah, you see,” said Venus, “Nature will win out.”

"The Frog King" or "How much longer?"

"How much longer shall I kiss this d.... frog until he becomes a prince?!"

texas jack and the chili pepper stalk

I'm from Texas. I say "howdy" and "y'all," I grew up riding horses in a western saddle, and I love chili peppers, especially jalapeños. So this is my take on "Jack and the Beanstalk."

I don't mind admitting it: that pepper plant was a nightmare. Cutting it out took a lot of time--no problema. But when I went to glue it down, it fell into a jillion pieces, and I nearly went crazy figuring out which leaf went where. I think I did OK, though, 'cause my botanist husband says it looks all right to him. If I ever do something like this again, I'm going to make a printed copy of it before I cut it out, just for reference when disaster strikes.

French Scraps

French Connection

Paris in the Spring

thoroughly enjoying this week's theme of using up scraps - and making ATCs for trade

A Pretty Apron Makes Food Preparation Fun!

So I finally got to it and went through my boxes of pre-cut images.  Central figure is an Art Deco statue of a nude woman with her head hanging down.  Head has been replaced with the smiling face of a Geisha. Geisha is modest so she is wearing a pretty apron (I went through a period of collecting images of aprons which I have never used in any collage before).  All pasted onto a circa 1930s Subscription Form for BETTER HOMES and GARDENS.

if it isn't one thing, it's another

The bird is a scarlet ibis, the national bird of Trinidad. Its color comes from the red crustaceans it eats. Tattooed man from a 19th century French medical textbook: I guess medical publishers in those days weren't above including an occasional gee-whiz picture! I wish I knew where the man originally came from, but I don't. Also: mysterious Spanish text, washi tape, rubber stamp, and photo of water from Discover magazine.

Next Cup.

four scraps used, mine tend to collect on a lamp base on my desk

Twister

Three little pieces were waiting for their chance!

curieuse exhibition

Background from Juxtapoz (an art magazine). Winged figure from Design Toscano catalog. Words from a book on the circus. Person in chains from an early 20th century poster for an escape artist, with head from Barbie doll catalog. Green thing from a photo of a sculpture (circa 2010).

Boy it feels good to get these old scraps off my work table!

two scraps two ways

sorting scraps today and found I could do two completely different collages with the same two pieces

Tick Tack Men

Another from today's scrap pile of leftovers.

strips of scraps times five

I must have seen this theme coming, because I made this one about a month ago. I pulled out five scraps that happened to be on my work table—art deco design, robots, photo of red amaryllis, strawberries, and newspaper mélange—and cut them into strips. Then I used a random number generator to determine what order they'd be pasted down in. I do like randomness!

Chicken Scraps

Killing two birds today, using up scraps and making ATCs for trade :)

A Small Dinner Party

Timely, W.  I was using up scraps just yesterday!  Here's the left-over half of a photo from a book on dolls, the left-over corner of a page from a cooking magazine (the pasta was needed for last week's theme), and an extra page torn from a shelter magazine for another piece.  Et, voila....creepy dinner party.

Indian Book Depot

A perfect opportunity this morning as I was gallery sitting and so had taken in a bag of fragments and cuttings I have had hanging around  (quite literally!)  for ages in a carrier bag.  So was able to make 5 collages in all in the space of   two and half hours.  This is the first.

Theme of the Week - Left-overs

This weeks challenge is to use up all those bits you've been meaning to use for some time now but they have accumulated on the floor around your desk or piled up in a pitiful heap on the work table ( I am speaking for myself here but I'm sure this happens to many collagists!)   So, just use your left-over fragments and bits and bobs and see what you come up with.  Have fun!
