The Alchemist

the fifth dimension is closer than you think

Sorry I was MIA for a while: medical issues, no big deal.

The upper background is from a Time magazine photo of an electrical storm over the Grand Canyon. The man in the dog mask is from the Archie McPhee catalog. The lower background is from a painting by Gordon Onslow Ford. The creature is a late Jurassic marine reptile called a Dakosaurus.

The colorful strip in between is from a computer model of superstrings. Superstring theory holds that our universe has many more dimensions than meet the eye—dimensions tightly curled into the folded fabric of the cosmos.

Theme of the Week - The 5th Dimension

Or even the 6th, 7th and 8th!?   "The claim that the cosmos has more than the four dimensions we can perceive — that is, three spatial dimensions plus time — is exotic enough. But the quest to prove that claim brings in a virtual menagerie of mysteries: mini-black holes and dark matter, gravitational waves and cosmic inflation, super-high-energy particle collisions and ultra-powerful gamma-ray bursts."   Have fun!

The interior is from a mid-century magazine advertisement.  The figures are from Diaghileff's Russian Ballet circa 1916.  The costumes were designed by Leon Bakst.

The Blacksmith and His Wife At Work

I made this collage for no particular reason some time ago.  But I think it is appropriate for the challenge.  I am sure cooking in the blacksmith's quarters would result in food smelling a bit horsey!

The beautiful painting is by Sir Edward Landseer and is entitled "The Blacksmith", 1875.

The housewife is from a vintage magazine ad.

This week has been kind of hectic and I am happy to get this collage off!

I own Volume One of The Encyclopedia of Photography and have used bits and pieces of it in numerous collages.  I prefer working with images that are printed on matte versus glossy stock and although the volume contains some glossy images the bulk of the book is printed in black & white on matte paper.
