'shrooms party like it's 1967

It's been a difficult week for me, y'all, so I didn't have a chance to make a collage specifically for this theme. But I did make a collage for another theme: mushrooms! So I'm sneakin' this one in on the grounds that there's a number in the title and that there's a 3 to the left of the naked bottom in the upper left. And there are probably other numbers scattered through: they're just impossible to read.

The story behind this is that the other species of mushrooms were envious of Psilocybe getting to have all the fun of being the psychedelic mushroom, so they decided to have a big San-Francisco-in-1967 party and wear all their best psychedelic duds. The morels weren't invited, but they crashed the party anyway.

Bathsheba Had a Good Figure, But She Didn't Have a Head for Them

That's "Bathsheba with King David's Letter", 1654 by Rembrandt.  The columns of figures are from a piece of paper found in a book purchased in a "thrift or charity" shop.  The corner of a US 2 dollar bill is the real thing...I was walking my dog yesterday and I found 1/4 of a $2 bill on the ground.  We walked around for quite a while looking for the other part(s) of it but never did so I thought I would include it in this collage.

The Numbers Game

 FACT:  The moon is moving away from the earth at a rate of 3.78 centimeters (1.5 inches) per year.

That is most of the original paper sleeve from the 45 rpm record.  Audrey was juxtaposed against a green background which I removed and added various elements to create a new space for her to look dreamy in front of.

the jaws of time

That's a famous photo of icthyologists posing in the reconstructed jaws of the giant prehistoric shark, Megalodon. I don't know when the photo was taken, but as you can tell from the clothes, a long time ago. With yellow acrylic paint for the jagged lines.

The title was inspired by the fact that those reconstructed jaws no longer exist. They were found to be inaccurately large: we now think the maw of Megalodon was more like four feet.

Time eats everything, eventually.

Theme of the Week - Rows Upon Rows Of People In Rows

This is based on an old article about Ray Johnson in a art mag. back in the 60's. In it he had sent clippings of rows of people to various correspondents. Dancers, soldiers, students, football teams etc. I'd always remembered the title for some reason. It didnt click at the time and the notion of mail art went over my head as a spotty art student but luckily some fifteen or so years later I discovered it again and I was hooked. Anyway it will be interesting to see your interpretations of this theme. Have fun!
