This Week's Theme: Weather

Hello. I'll be briefer than a Scottish Summer....We've been going through a heatwave here in the UK...it's the main topic of conversation right now but it usually is - whatever it's like. :)

So, for this week any collages depicting any type of weather.....

Said G, "'Ip, 'Ip, 'ooray!"

"You're dropping me," roared H to G. 
"Don't do it please I pray."


"Out of my way," LL said to K. 
"I'll make poor I look ILL."

To stop this stunt J stood in front, 
And presto! ILL was JILL.


"U know," said V, "that W 
Is twice the age of me.

For as a Roman V is five 
I'm half as young as he." 


X and Y yawned sleepily, 
"Look at the time!" they said. 

"Let's all get off to beddy byes."

They did, then "Z-z-z."

Handwritten text is a long poem by T. S. Eliot, titled "Burnt Norton"—the first poem in his Four Quartets. I cut out the orange shapes.

Here's the whole of the Four Quartets, if you want to read some of it. I'm kind of an ambassador for that big chunk of Eliot. =laugh=

This collage has a problem: it's 8 1/2" x 11", but it didn't quite fit on the lame scanner I have right now.

Perhaps a Clerihew?

A clerihew is a whimsical, four-line biographical poem invented by Edmund Clerihew Bentley. The first line is the name of the poem's subject, usually a famous person put in an absurd light, or revealing something unknown or spurious about them. The rhyme scheme is AABB, and the rhymes are often forced. The line length and metre are irregular. Bentley invented the clerihew in school and then popularized it in books. One of his best known is this (1905):

Sir Christopher Wren
Said, "I am going to dine with some men.
If anyone calls
Say I am designing St. Paul's.

Is there a mail artist who doesn't admire Anna Banana? Is there a conceptual/performance artist who doesn't admire Anna Banana? I doubt it!!

From my recent archives. Giorgio Di Chirico painted those bananas (and some of the other stuff). I think Di Chirico must've loved bananas, 'cause he was so good at painting them.

As it happens, I don't love bananas—not in real life. They're OK, but I find them kind of bland. But in collages? I appear to love bananas, 'cause I put them in so many collages. Go figure...

I love Michelle Shocked. She's a Texan, just like me. She has a great song called "When I Grow Up" with a prominent mention of green bananas:

It may not have appeared that I took much of a break from the KK, but I made a whole ton of collages in a variety of themes and types. That period broke me open from what had been a kind of "artist's block," and now I'm back in the groove, so I'm back on the KK, for as much as possible. =smile=

On this day in history, May 6, 1840, the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the "Penny Black", is first used in Great Britain.

I love Canadian stamps! The ones marked "USA" were a joint philatelic venture between Canada and the U.S. Check out that $8- grizzly bear and that $10- blue whale! Most of these stamps were sent to me on a package of artistamps from famed mail artist and artistamp publisher, Anna Banana, who lives in British Columbia.

On this day in history, May 6, 1840, the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the "Penny Black", is first used in Great Britain.

This is one of my all-time favorite series from the USPS. I love the gradations of color from left to right, and it's cool that they chose unusual tropical fruits for it, not the usual apple and orange.

Collage Kids

OK here's one from the archives as I don't seem to have time for a new one. This collage from 2009 is the origin of the name of this blog ( slightly ammended ) and was inspired in turn by a collage collaboration with the great Art Nahpro ( Paul Jackson ) a year or so previous to that. Also the name of a blog on Flickr I started with Angelica Paez many years ago. It was made in May so as near to the theme as I could get it!
