FREE for ALL -- Inspired by Hazel's collage

Hazel said she used things she found on her desktop. Well, I rummaged through pre-cut pieces on my worktable and came up with this image.

As we know our Sun provides life on earth. Makes vegetation grow and keeps all creatures great and small alive. But we must protect our eyes and also the largest organ of our body -- our skin. Found this bit on the internet which also correlates to the young lady drinking milk, a source of Vitamin D:

Vitamin D is a hormone that can be generated in the skin upon ultraviolet light exposure.

Thank you Mr. Sun.

How I Start The Day - Fish Juggling

Not really - my early morning meanderings wouldn't make for very entertaining collages!

Starting the Day with a Stretch

How Margaret liked to start her day.

Margaret always liked to start her day checking the measurements of her giant fruit and vegetables.

THEME: Your Favorite Way to Start the Day

There are a lot of ways to start the day...but I am not going to list any. Right now I am going to roll over and pull the covers over my head and dream of some. (I say this because I was supposed to get up about an hour and a half ago. LOL!) Guess that is one way to start the day.

superstition: The Scottish Play.

The Scottish Play and the Bard's play are euphemisms for Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The first is a reference to the play's Scottish setting, the second a reference to Shakespeare's popular nickname. According to a theatrical superstition, called the Scottish curse, speaking the name Macbeth inside a theatre, other than as called for in the script while rehearsing or performing, will cause disaster.

At the 94th Academy Awards Chris Rock congratulated Denzil Washington on his performance in The Tragedy of Macbeth saying the name of the Scottish play aloud in the Dolby Theatre. Moments later, Rock was slapped by Will Smith after making a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. Viewers, including playwright Lynn Nottage, quickly took to social media to joke that Rock had suffered the curse of the Scottish play.

SUPERSTITION of South America: Do not have your feet swept over by a broom

If your feet are swept over by a broom you will remain single for the rest of your life. However, the curse CAN BE broken if you immediately spit on the broom! Most likely based on the adage: A woman who cannot keep house, does not a good wife make.

I had a hard time finding the right image of a woman to hold the brooms that I found in a DOVER book of "Victorian Goods and Merchandise". But I looked at my anatomy books and found the perfect pose, but she was wearing no clothes. Luckily I have a lot of old J. Peterman clothing catalogs (which are lovely and each item of clothing is a watercolor rendering) and I found a skirt to fit her PERFECTLY and fashioned a bra top out of an illustration of a scarf.

The tie-dye paper just happened to be sitting on my worktable and voila!

Black cat and broken mirror

Just when Madam Roland thought the day couldn’t get any worse!

Superstitions - Shoes On The Table/ Number Thirteen

It may have something to do with death, and the idea of placing a new pair of shoes on the table would signify that someone had just died, or you would have bad luck for the rest of the day, quarrel with someone or lose your job. Even among people who are not superstitious, shoes can be associated with contamination.
The head collage was intended for previous theme but didnt get it done in time. Added the rest to fit with this weeks theme so you get two for the price of one ( unlucky for some!).

Theme: SUPERSTITIONS!

Do you have a particular superstition? I am always fascinated when I learn someone I am close to reveals one. Have fun with real or imagined superstitions. And don't forget to knock on some wood today after you avoid those cracks in the front walk!

The Dog days Of Summer - Dog Collar

A page from my latest collaged FLIM FLam Zine.

The Dog Days of Summer and a child's imagination

Thanks to August Macke (1887-1914) for the use of his painting "Children in the Garden" 1912.

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

I think of The Dog Days of Summer as hot and oppressive. I also think about how much more water my flower garden needs during this period of the season.
