As Scarce As Hen's Teeth

  1. I laughed and shivered at the same time! I love it that the hen has no head, and the egg is a nice addition. You have old Life magazines? I'm envious...

    1. Nah, just reprints from books -- this is Mike, who was famous in his day (c. 1945) for running around very much alive for 18 months after his head was chopped off -- the chopper missed enough of his brainstem so that it didn't kill him and apparently chickens don't need too much more than a brainstem in order to function. His photo appeared all over the place (Life, Ripley's books, newspapers, even some old film footage), and Mike enjoyed an active public life, making appearances at sideshows, public fairs, etc. where he would run around headless. And that's the rest of the story...
