Exquisite Corpse No. 6

Josephine, Sabine and I have been doing a series of "exquisite corpse" collages.  One of us starts, folds the paper to hide what she's done and passes it on to the second, who does the same, etc.  This one was started by me with the bottom third, Josephine did the middle, and Sabine finished it off with the top. None of us saw it until it was totally finished and (ta-da!) finally unfolded.  Much fun was had by all!

Martha and the Mule

Pastel by William Merritt Chase entitled "Interior: Young Woman Standing at Table" circa 1898. Mule from a vintage children's book about animals. I was struck by the scale and coloration of found mule and how well I could integrate it into Chase's work so it hardly seems like a collage.

I found these old handwritten telephone cards, this one's from an 'apotheker', so I translated this one into a tag.

Being a person who NEVER learned to drive a car I am an Earth Day Advocate everyday and I own four bikes.  Being a part of the solution to pollution for the last 48 years! (I'm figuring I would have gotten my driver's permit at age 16.)

From very recent archives: two cut-paper collage postcards (w/ acrylic paint & rubber stamps). Background text is from opening section of Encyclopedia of Flower Remedies.

If you're wondering why I included so many red-and-white striped tulips (from old Dutch master still lifes), it's because they fascinate me. They are a now-extinct cultivar in which the stripes were caused by a virus. This cultivar, Semper Augustus, was the most expensive tulip sold during the tulip mania of the 1630s.
