55 Melons

This is a collaboration collage by Lynn and me.

Tiny Tumblers

Tornado

This week's theme: Upside Down

Upsides down - downside ups. Topsy-turvy worlds in a collagey spin is the order of the day.

Bidding farewell from the theme-choosing challenges for now...it's been great fun and thanks for the all the crazy collages in April & May.  - Ron

We are family

Secret Society of Doll Devotees

Once a month the members of The Secret Society of Doll Devotees don the heads of their favorite creations and parade the doll of the moment.

Danger, Danger...

Penguin Hunt 2

Headed out of town for some lovely vacating, but just happened to have snipped this one a few days ago.  I think a homicidal group of boy scouts qualifies as a group, yes?  See you in a couple weeks!

The Last Of The Leech Men

This week's theme: Tribes, Clubs & Groups.

Looking for collages based around groups like Hippies, Yippies, Yuppies, Fan-Clubs, Goths, Punks, Mods, Rockers, Societies and all similar bunches of people and more etc… who've grouped together in a common aim through the ages…
Maybe there's a few new ones The Kollage Kit could invent...

Shout it to the Top!

Inspired by the cover for Franz Ferdinand's 2005 album You Could Have It So Much Better was in turn inspired by Russian artist Alexander Rodchenko's 1924 portrait of Lilya Brik.

Noisy Neighbours

Freud Radio -- All Madness All the Time

That is "The Cry" by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) who suffered from anxiety and alcoholism, his condition described as "verging on madness" before seeking treatment.  Louis Wain (1860-1939) famous for his paintings of cats suffered from a progression of psychosis and the cat I used in this collage was painted during the early stages of Wain's affliction.  The gent above Freud's head is from a 1930s magazine ad...he looks like he needs some kind of 'help'.  For the background I found a full page detail of a painting by Joseph Stella (1877-1946) entitled "Luna Park Abstraction" (1913-14).  I felt it had the right "feel" for my elements to be placed on.

Sound of Silence / Dance Macabre

These two pictures happened to be next to each other in a photo book. The man is mourning over
the death of Roosevelt and the woman is jumping towards her death, but to me it looks like a
beautiful dance (just the moment before ... the sound of silence)

This week's theme: Sound

Testing, Testing…1, 2, 3....KOLLAGE KIT calling!
Explorations on the theme of sound required. Music, nature, sound effects, broadcasts etc…
It could be your favourite/most hated sound/noise represented.
I've never liked the sound of alarm clocks myself…

Cliniclowns (aka Clown Doctors)

Stand Up For Your Self

Some cut out figures I've been playing around with. Not sure what they have in common - being cut-outs I guess! Two photos so you can see they are really 3D.

About hunting and being hunted

Better watch it full screen and in HD.

Homage to Lenore Kight Wingard

Wow! This was F U N. So that is Lenore Kight Wingard (1911-2000).  Known as "America's Premiere Mermaid", Lenore won medals in the 1932 and 1936 Olympics.  I cut her out of a 1937 advertisement for Camel cigarettes!  The bear is from a National Geographic book about wildlife.  Those are paper roses purchased at a craft shop.  The piece measures 12 x 12 inches and I have already framed it in a ready-made shadow box frame. (Which I just added to this post!)

Real Places That Don't Exist, No. 3

Last year I did a little experimenting with layered, 3D collage effects.  In this one, some of the cutouts are glued to thick cardboard and layered on top of one another to make the picture about 3/4" deep.  Then I framed it with no glass so the dimensional effect was obvious. It's rather like looking at a diorama.

Tattooed Skull

I've had this papier mache skull on my table for a while now - made back last year. Seemed to perfect time to add some collage bits to it!

This week's theme: 3-D

Starting off the Merrie Month of May with an experimental theme.... I think someone mentioned this a while back about creating a 3-D collage and I thought that was a great idea.
Photograph your structure or if you prefer any 2-D artwork riffing on the Third Dimension is fine too.
Now, where's my glasses?

Fashions of the Forties

I made this collage this morning for The Kollage Kit and for my friend, Maureen, as her birthday card!  Maureen is not only a gardener she is a seamstress and I thought I could kill two birds with one stone!  (I hate that phrase, but you know what I mean!)
