Theme Of The Week...............................April Fools

This seems appropriate as there are so many fools doing stupid things at the moment. Make a collage of a fool or a foolish act, prank or a visual joke of some kind. Have fun!

PEDESTAL: Two giants of the music industry have pedestals in our home

We both revere Miss Joni Mitchell but my husband worships at the temple of "Ol' Blue Eyes". Our home is always filled with music of some kind, but I especially know when hubby is in a really good mood because it is Frank "All the Way"!

Pedestal.....................................Two For The Price Of One

A "work in progress" from the latest Curios Thing zine coming soon. Killing two pedestals with one stone ( stretching things a bit here! ).

Historical Plinth

Ancient manuscript found of four young men on a plinth..who could they be…?

Pedestal..............................Homage To Mark Pawson (Postcard)

From the archives.

Theme Of The Week..............................Pedestal

A statue stands on a pedestal or plinth. Someone famous can stand on a pedestal or be knocked from a pedestal if they are out of favour. Who would you put on your pedestal? Have fun!

Hair & Hair Styles -- Status Symbol of the Late 1700s "The High Roll"

The hairstyle could be very tall and make the wearer's head seem twice as high. First, the woman's hair would be combed. Then the woman or her hairdresser would add pomatum to the hair so it could be shaped. The pomatum would have treated fat, oil and perfumes or spices in it. This would add a pleasant scent, kill head lice, and help hold the hair in place. Women would add extra hair collected from cows, horses, other people, or their own collected hair from their hairbrushes for extra volume. Women and hairdressers would place pillows or wire frames inside the hair to hold it up.  The hair would be placed in curlers and left overnight. Some women would make curls along the sides or neck with curlers. The hair was held in place with pins. The hair could be natural color or colored gray, brown or white with powder. The hairstyle could be as high as 2 feet (0.61 meters).

When Howard Homunculus showed up at figure drawing class...

...the screams could be heard throughout the school. (Poor Howard! It was the size of his feet that shocked 'em.)

Note: after I made the collage I checked out the images of homunculus I found online and realized he did NOT also have big feet, but that is okay...at least my version looks somewhat balanced! AND yesterday I heard about a recent sighting of BIG FOOT or Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest and I guess I had that creature on my mind!

Homunculus

A creature I have created from creatures from Dr Who…

Homunculous.....................................Jarred Imp

I was lucky enough to find the jar in a childrens book about hobbies recently. It was for a simple aquarium I think but handy for collages about homunculi too!

Theme Of The Week........................Homunculus

During medieval and early modern times, it was thought that a homunculus, an artificial humanlike being, could be created through alchemy. The homunculus first appears by name in alchemical writings attributed to Paracelsus (1493–1541). We love "Small Prophets" TV series and this is the basis for this weeks theme. More info. can be found on You Tube.

"I mean it...you can't park there Guv!"

Thanks to my art books..."Courtyard of a Dutch House" circa 1629-1683 by De Hooch and the enforcer is from "The Menaced Assassin" 1926 by Rene Magritte.

You can’t park there guv…..

I love “witty banter”

This is a classic one..usually shouted when someone has driven into a ditch or ended up on a roundabout…

You Can't Park There Guv!.......................................Drive Thru'

From the archives. Guv is short for Guv'nor, or alternatives could be "Mate" "Feller" "Mister" "Sir" "Lady" etc. etc.

Theme Of The Week.........................You Can't Park There Guv!

Unlikely parking spaces. Cars or other vehicles in strange places. Have fun!

money-money-money: Taxmen

Some Beatles songs refer to money. For this, I was inspired by George's Revolver opener "Taxman".

The Magic Money Tree and the Gold Rush.

Thank you for all the great themes…it’s been fun…

I did two collages as I was going to do the gold one and couldn’t find any gold..then I went  downstairs for afternoon tea and there was the gold foil coloured biscuit….it had to be done.

THEME: Money Money Money

I have had a great time the last two months, picking themes I hope you enjoyed as much as I enjoyed seeing what you all created. I am ending my turn with a challenge we've had before, can't remember how recent, but is always fun.

water-water-everywhere: Water Somewhere?

Including a mixed media collage style I experimented with in my art evening class this week.

(I was inspired by one of the landscape photos supplied by the lecturer but not sure of the location.)

Water, water everywhere and Wait! a Hammerhead as well!!

I found a delightful 1929 advert in a vintage magazine for Bradley woolen knitwear, the kind bathers used to wear. I cut the gal on the gents right hand off the image (she would have been half a woman based on the original ad placement LOL) and found a nice beach scene. But then what? Do you know how menacing a hammerhead shark is? From a bit on the internet: Hammerheads are often found in shallow coastal waters and are shy and not considered aggressive toward people. There you go! Or there they go!!

THEME: Water water everywhere

Sorry folks, I blanked on what day of the week it is! As we are expecting a rain storm later today AND my family is talking about taking a cruise to Alaska later this year (don't think I am joining...the thought of a large cruise ship not my cup of tea!) AND I am in the process of trying to determine the value of a vintage lithograph I own of a barque (four-masted sailing ship) called "The Peking" -- I have water on my mind and I will make it this week's theme!

LOVE is in the air with a little help from Venus & Aphrodite!

A very voluptuous Venus by Titian -- detail from Sacred & Profound Love ca 1514 by Tiziano Vecellio (aka Titian) meets Aphrodite ca 1915 by Paul Klee. What could go wrong?

THEME: Love is in the air

Get those hearts and flowers and candy ready and a romantic poem might not hurt:

A Red, Red Rose – Robert Burns

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.

SURREALISM: A Magritte Mash-up

So...I decided to cut up and rearrange some of the master's work. If you want to see the three pieces by Magritte that I used look these up:

"The Portrait" 1935

"Melusine" 1952

Drawing for "Month of Grape Gatherings" 1959
