Beauty and the Beast
Breck girl illustration (from advertisement in a 1950s hair salon magazine) and a clay mask of a beast-like man -- I cut away a huge portion of it eliminating the long beard which would have covered Beauty's lovely neck and pearls. I liked the tension between the two elements. I added the telephone wire behind to create a feeling of further tension (thanks to a 1950s Western Electric magazine).

Well done, Angie! I think the beauty/beast dynamic plays out effectively, and the wires going into circles are an inspired touch: when I first looked at it, I winced at the thought of them piercing her eyes or something....
ReplyDeleteThanks Fi.
DeleteI like the way the mask integrates with this woman's face as if the curls belongs to her and also the nose fits perfectly. It all seems so natural.
ReplyDeleteThe background is perfect, I like the grayish color.
Thanks Josephine. It was meant to be that that mask fit perfectly over the face of the Breck girl!
DeleteWhat a beautiful beast! And I agree with Josephine - the background fits perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sabine. I got this one in at the last minute. Actually had a problem thinking about making something ugly. I think I at least got to "disturbing"!
DeleteExcellently snipped and a touch of Dr. Jeckyl and Mrs. Hyde about it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael.
DeleteOr the bearded lady in the side show...love the colors on this one, CC, she's actually quite gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn. She was very very pretty and I am sorry I did not make a copy of her face before I made her into a partial beast!
Deletei think she is still beautiful!!!
ReplyDeletemakes one think about the concept of beauty - ugliness
