flower remedies 1 & 2
From very recent archives: two cut-paper collage postcards (w/ acrylic paint & rubber stamps). Background text is from opening section of Encyclopedia of Flower Remedies.
If you're wondering why I included so many red-and-white striped tulips (from old Dutch master still lifes), it's because they fascinate me. They are a now-extinct cultivar in which the stripes were caused by a virus. This cultivar, Semper Augustus, was the most expensive tulip sold during the tulip mania of the 1630s.

Love the collage AND the commentary, Fi. Read a great book about the tulip-mania years ago...do you know it?
ReplyDeleteNope, haven't read that one, Lynn. Lately I've been churning through Michel Pastoureau's books on the history of color (black, blue, green, stripes, etc.), my favorte of which is The Colors of Our Memories.
DeleteLovely stuff - I feel Spring just around the corner!
ReplyDeleteI love the term "tulip-mania" and I love your collage! Very inspiring spring stuff!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the old masters still lives and also those tulips!
ReplyDeleteI happen to have two vases with tulips in my living room, they feel so 'spring-like'!
