Freud Radio -- All Madness All the Time
That is "The Cry" by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) who suffered from anxiety and alcoholism, his condition described as "verging on madness" before seeking treatment. Louis Wain (1860-1939) famous for his paintings of cats suffered from a progression of psychosis and the cat I used in this collage was painted during the early stages of Wain's affliction. The gent above Freud's head is from a 1930s magazine ad...he looks like he needs some kind of 'help'. For the background I found a full page detail of a painting by Joseph Stella (1877-1946) entitled "Luna Park Abstraction" (1913-14). I felt it had the right "feel" for my elements to be placed on.

What a lovely old radio. Excellent combo. Just got myself a new fangled wi-fi internet radio which is fun. Amazing what stations you can find - but no Freud or Munch as yet!
ReplyDeleteYou brought some great pictures together Angie! Probably you hear Janis Joplin singing 'Cry Baby' coming out of the radio.
ReplyDeleteNice work Angie. Could be Dr Freud's late night radio phone-in.
