Does She or Doesn't She? Only Her Hairdresser Knows For Sure!

Two found photographs - one black & white, one hand-colored.  Planet earth from a child's science book.  The question is from a circa 1960s ad for Miss Clairol hair color.

  1. CC, this is very cool, really like the color/no-color effect.

    1. Yeah, I knew when I found the two photos in an antique store that one day they would be used together! Don't you just love that hair!?

    1. She certainly is a glam girl. I figure these photos from the 1940s.

  3. Just now I was reading a tiny tome on the subject of theory & cultural studies, and as I read about the notion that mass culture in capitalist society (e.g., advertising) seeks to create the ideal consumer, I thought of the line from your collage, Angie—because who would ever dream of changing their hair color, were they not encouraged to do so by ads like that? I mean, certainly not as often, or with the result of spending money on said fantasy. Witty collage—I'm enjoying it!

    1. Thanks Fi. Did you know my husband's career was in advertising and he created many campaigns such as "The Special K Pinch"? At least that encouraged you to do something good for yourself!

  4. Yes, I remember your husband was an ad man. But I'm afraid I don't remember that Special K commercial: I started tuning out TV when I was about 12-13, diving into the big world of books instead. I remember a few cigarette commercials, and some of the famous late 60s campaigns for soda pop, and that's about it.
