Denizens Of The Deep

Fishy bits from a photo of a necklace owned by Frida Kahlo.
Background is printer paper, with added coffee grounds, Fairy Liquid and olive oil, accidentally left out in the rain earlier in the week, then washed over with Dr.Ph.Martin's ink, then spray-varnished!
Not quite dry yet, despite having been left overnight, and then all of this morning in the sun...

  1. Oooo, gorgeous! The texture of the background is AMAZING! Thanks so much, Steve, for explaining about how you created it, including that delightful instance of rainy serendipidity. I wish I had more skill in such endeavors. I take it that much experimentation in the kitchen is required!

And I love how it has just a little touch of brown. It's obvious that you cropped it very well. I can imagine Frida wearing that necklace: it is her taste.

    1. Thank you Fi! Yes it's funny that texture thing going on - I was thinking I'd never be able to replicate the results, but I'm going to see if I can this week, rain or no rain...

The experimentation in the kitchen came about through boredom, as I was about to load the dishwasher, looking down in my coffee cup I could see the dregs, so I poured them onto the paper, added the olive oil, then the Fairy Liquid to break it all up, then tipped it this way and that until it looked okay, and put it out to dry in the garden.
Then forgot about it until the morning after the stormy weather!
So yes, maybe not so much a case of skill in this endeavour, more a case of boredom and forgetfulness :)

  2. Ingenius! I often use the contents of the rubbish bin to make collages but never thought of using the contents of the kitchen!

    1. Thank you Wastedpapiers! And yes, I think anything from the kitchen is fair game, my last week's collage was made from the recycling, so for this week's I moved a bit higher up towards the food cupboard and the dirty cups :)

  4. I should have added how the necklace fragment seems to have motion. Excellent positioning.

    1. Thank you Collage Craft, and thanks for having me here! And yes, I think it does seem to have motion too, something to do with the shipwreck-y/coral shape in the background in combination with the fish shape maybe.
