North + South or Polar Opposites

Photograph shows Martha Jane Burke (1852-1903), popularly known as Calamity Jane, standing by the grave of Wild Bill Hickok in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Deadwood, South Dakota circa 1903.

I've added a circa 1961 high fashion model clad in a 'Maharajah's tunic' of black dyed Southwest African Persian Lamb from an advertisement of Fifth Avenue, New York French Couturier in Fur Georges Kaplan.

I could have created a lot of polar opposites, but I liked the juxtaposition of these two women.

  1. They've just blew in from the Collage City! Quite a character was Jane. Recently watched The Plainsman (1936) with Jean Arthur as Jane.

  2. Nice contrast between the women. Although I think Jane would look great on a catwalk too!

    1. Well, if you read up on good old Calamity J. you will see she worked within the walls of a "cat" house LOL so I guess you a correct! That joke aside, she does have a significant fashion sense, doesn't she?
