Well what a hoot! I'm not particularly wise or owl-like but definatley old and a collagist so two out of four ain't bad!

CREATE A SELF PORTRAIT in COLLAGE

Totally inspired by Hannah Hoch (1889-1978) I first wanted to find a piece of art that had the shape of my face to collage on. And this background was perfect (however, I rotated the grey egg shape from horizontal to vertical and trimmed a lot of the artwork to make it look like my head is on a curvy pedestal).

The artwork I found is by John Graham(1881-1961) entitled "Nature Morte" 1929-30:

My eyes have always been a feature many have commented on and I found a fashion photo circa 1960s of those flowery eyes. I wear a lot of berets and I thank Lotte Lenya for that one (found in the same book as the eyes).

“Smooshed together”

We saw a film recently called “Substance”… a dig at the beauty industry…horrible film!

So I used a very chopped up book of film stars and “smooshed” some of the bits together to try and create my beautiful alter ego…

It looks nothing like me…sorry..

I grabbed a magazine in my studio "The Complete Photographer" Issue 29 Volume 5 1942 which featured a section on flower photography and food photography.

Stamp Sheet

Originaly from MAD magazine the perforated stamps depicted like they were from an old album were used first in the 80's for some of my early mail art photo copies. Used again here and the original images substituted with similar from old american magazines like the Mechanics Illustrated from the 50's. Love those old adverts for tyres and correspondence courses in art and design. Its been very hot again so limited to what tweaks I could do. I may go back and add some words when it gets cooler!

"Chicken Juggling" the Sport of Angels

I know I still have one day to create but please forgive me for posting a collage from the archives. I have had another round of major disruption in our house renovations and it has been difficult for me to make time to think about making a new collage. So I present a collage I made 13 years ago and I hope you enjoy it again! I particularly love this collage as the angel is carefully cut from a piece of antique sheet music I found at a charity shop.
