Starting in 1949, on Poe's birthday, a mysterious male figure would arrive at Poe's grave and drink Martell Cognac and leave the unfinished bottle and three red roses on Poe's grave. It is said the roses were for Poe, his wife, Virginia Clemm Poe and wife's mother, Maria Poe Clemm, who are all buried in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Baltimore, Maryland. The tradition stopped in 2012. Apparently the toaster had also gone to his great reward. The tradition has been resurrected as of 2015.
