Thanks Angie, well-spotted Re: Garry Gottle (or is it Barry Bottle?). I was inspired by the late, great comedian Ken Dodd’s routine with his Vent doll Dicky Mint…a sample…
Ken: Would you like a Big Bottle of Beer and some Brown Bread & Butter or a Shandy? Dicky: A Shandy!
Okay, so this is a "talk of the town" first-rate collection! But who is Garry Gottle??
ReplyDeleteAfter a Google or should I say GOTTLE search, I narrowed it all down!! Too funny. AND, as usual, I learned something new courtesy of The Kollage Kit!!
gottle of geer
cliché A phrase used to imitate and represent ventriloquism (due to how famously difficult the phrase "bottle of beer" is for ventriloquists to say). Often used to imply or indicate ventriloquism in a metaphorical sense. "Of" is sometimes shortened to "o’."
A: "Want to come see an amateur ventriloquist performance?" B: "And watch some schmuck with a dummy try to say 'gottle o’ geer' for an hour? No thanks."
A: "He's basically just a puppet being used by the leader of the other country." B: "It's so true. Can you say 'gottle of geer'?"
Yeah, I don't really have any interest in ventriloquism. Do people actually enjoy watching a "talking" doll say stuff like "gottle of geer"?
