Some Beatles songs refer to money. For this, I was inspired by George's Revolver opener "Taxman".

I did two collages as I was going to do the gold one and couldn’t find any gold..then I went  downstairs for afternoon tea and there was the gold foil coloured biscuit….it had to be done.

I have had a great time the last two months, picking themes I hope you enjoyed as much as I enjoyed seeing what you all created. I am ending my turn with a challenge we've had before, can't remember how recent, but is always fun. 

water-water-everywhere: Water Somewhere?

Including a mixed media collage style I experimented with in my art evening class this week.

(I was inspired by one of the landscape photos supplied by the lecturer but not sure of the location.)

Water, water everywhere and Wait! a Hammerhead as well!!

I found a delightful 1929 advert in a vintage magazine for Bradley woolen knitwear, the kind bathers used to wear. I cut the gal on the gents right hand off the image (she would have been half a woman based on the original ad placement LOL) and found a nice beach scene. But then what? Do you know how menacing a hammerhead shark is? From a bit on the internet: Hammerheads are often found in shallow coastal waters and are shy and not considered aggressive toward people. There you go! Or there they go!!

Sorry folks, I blanked on what day of the week it is! As we are expecting a rain storm later today AND my family is talking about taking a cruise to Alaska later this year (don't think I am joining...the thought of a large cruise ship not my cup of tea!) AND I am in the process of trying to determine the value of a vintage lithograph I own of a barque (four-masted sailing ship) called "The Peking" -- I have water on my mind and I will make it this week's theme!

SURREALISM: A Magritte Mash-up

So...I decided to cut up and rearrange some of the master's work. If you want to see the three pieces by Magritte that I used look these up:

If you look real close, to the right of the horse tail, you will see the image of a fish head with an eye seeming to be breaking out of the ground as I used a piece of an Odilon Redon painting for the sky/land portion of the collage!

Surreal Sausages.

 I looked back at the surrealists for inspiration..my favourite were the simple ones such as an apple in front of a face…I went for “Frankfurter salad” a strange recipe in itself.

I also found an accidental one in a chopped up book…glued as found.

THEME: Surrealism or the Irrational Juxtaposition of Images

I just picked up a wonderful catalogue of a show of the works of Rene Magritte (Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris February 11-June 9 2003) and I am feeling inspired. Have fun.
