The man in the foreground is not God's gift physically but if his heart is sweet and full of good intentions then he is not ugly. I have a feeling "slick Sam" in the background, who physically looks the part of God's gift is really a snake at heart and therefore he is ugly.
I like the way you're playing with ugliness as an idea, Josephine, not just a visual effect. That's what I was getting at in my Koons collage: the inner ugliness of that man.
