Caroline Ponders the Difference Between a Square Prism and a Cube
The most beautiful Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (22 March 1808 - 15 June 1877) was an English feminist, social reformer and author. The man and the cubes are from a vintage arithmetic book.

Theme of the Week - Boxing Day
Seems like an obvious choice. Can either be the fighting kind or the cube you put stuff in. Have fun!

Make A Joyful Noise!
It's the image I created for our holiday card. That's Harvey the Cockapoo on violin, husband Ted on harpsichord and yours truly belting out a Christmas carol! Happy Holidays my fellow collagists. All the best in the coming new year!

Beulah always warms up with a few exercises before commencing with the holiday house cleaning.
In the Snow Lightly Falling...
Happy, happy holidays, everybody!
The title "in the snow lightly falling" is borrowed from a poem called "Solace," written by Dick Allen, the Poet Laureate of Connecticut. The poem has been turned into a chorale piece to commemorate the child victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. If you'd like to read about it or here the piece, go here. The poem and the chorale piece are quite beautiful.

She departed this world for another
and went to look for the loons.
3 pairs of loons in this one - I made a big mess this week, looking for things in threes, this piece finally came together late Wednesday.
three times three equals nine
I had to photograph this one on the kitchen table, 'cause the scanner did a lousy job on the background. Drawing by Glen Baxter. Unfortunately, I have no info on the lovely circus gals. There are nine rubber-stamped stars: you'll have to take my word for it, 'cause two of 'em are nearly invisible.

trois absurdi-poissons
I've been working on this for days, and I had so much fun, I'm almost sad it's completed. I'm going to do a whole series of these, I guess. =laugh= I got started on one with wings for last week's theme, but then I got sick and didn't have time to get it done.
Fantasy fish parts are scavenged from about 47 different paintings by early 18th century French artist Samuel Fallours. Background is a list of fish in Fallours's handwriting. Plus watercolor markers and fine-point markers.
The Smell of Fried Chicken Came Wafting Up the Stairs
I could not believe my good fortune while paging through a LIFE magazine from March, 1958. A full page advertisement for Swanson's Quick-Frozen Chicken featured "a trio" of the yummy looking stuff on forks. I then laid my hands on my vintage book of black & white photographs that I like to use as background and voila!

The Trio Sailed Until They Reached The Lone Cypress Tree
I have a book of black & white photographs of the United States coasts. The black & white silhouette of a Cypress Tree is on a beach in Carmel, California. The bathing beauty is a vintage porcelain figurine. The two gents in a dinghy are from a children's book about sailing.

Gang of Three (Chinese Pants)
Theme of the Week - Trios
We've had pairs and duo's before but not trios so this is about all things in three's - triple jump - we 3 Kings - vocal trios - jazz trios - the third programme - three blind mice - the third man - just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure you can come up with more - have fun!

Space Debris
This was done in a bit of a rush - busy time of year! Also must mention the OBRIGADO mail art exhibition blog which is up and running.

Women With Wings
The dancer with wings is Anna Pavlova as a Dragonfly. A vintage Barbie doll dressed as a Flight Attendant (I believe one of the first Barbie dolls--I cut this image out quite a while ago and don't remember). The little bit of reproduction Victorian scrap from a Dover book has the word "PEPPERY" on it. And of course that's a nice image of an angel.

Some Scraps From This Morning's Work
Slam Dunk In Turkey
Rejected cuttings from this morning's work glued onto a recently-rediscovered postcard that I never got to send a couple summers ago. Misplaced during an emergency retreat from a family vacation in central Turkey; details include a sunset horse ride in Cappadocia, a daughter, a broken back...you don't want to know...but, all better now!
Left Over Combo
I had a real problem with this theme.
Sure I have a lot of images that are already cut out (and put in boxes to be used at a later date) but I don't consider them left overs -- like scraps. (And I always clean my work table when finished with an image so I tend to throw the paper scraps into a recycle bin.)
I wanted to truly use scraps.
Luckily I found a bit of striped paper that had been ripped into an oval (don't remember doing that on purpose!) and a fashion illustration that had a corner chewed off of it and although the flowers were carefully snipped, I considered them scrap so here is my "Left Over Combo" (that I pasted onto a portion of solid color cardboard stock that was left over from making another collage.)

More from the scraps box, plus a left-over piece of ironed grocery bag from an artist's book project and some rubber stamping.

everybody is strange
I love these leftover scraps themes: I could do them for weeks on end before I used up all my scraps. If you could see how totally inundated my work table is with rejects from previous projects, you'd wonder how I ever get anything done. The background, for example, is one I considered using for one of the Andy Warhol's costume party collages: it's a fabric pattern titled "Deconstructed Knit, 2010" designed by Brittany Keats Cerullo. The two-headed African deer is by good ol' Albertus Seba. The hands are from a book on the archives of the National Library of Medicine. The two people are from an old postcard a friend gave me. With blue acrylic paint.
From the Scrap Pile: Split
Operating Shed
Not all left-overs as such. The eyes and the shed are but the brain parts and body are cut from recent charity shop finds books.

Weekly Theme
Leftovers - more appropriate for those who are celebrating Thanksgiving today but I'm sure all collage artists everywhere have plenty of leftovers to use up - think scraps from your desk and floor :)

absurdi-poisson
All the fantasy fish parts are collage, scavenged from about thirty different fish painted by French artist Samuel Fallours, around the first decade of the 18th century. Background is a list of fish illustrations in Fallours's handwriting. Green & blue wash with watercolor markers. Scales, spines, & connecti-bits drawn with fine-point markers.

Challenge
This was a real challenge for me because I´m not that brilliant in sketching - as you see.
This is a miserable try but at least the best I produced :)
