The Lost Art of Penmanship

Penmanship is sadly not something being taught in school anymore.  In a June 22, 2014 article published in The News-Gazette of Champaign, IL entitled "The Lost Art of Cursive Handwriting," John Foreman wrote:

"Most schools are no longer required to teach cursive writing, and many do not.  Their logic is simple:  Children no longer need handwriting.  Modern communication is done with a keyboard -- email, text messages, what have you.  Cursive is a useless art."

Very sad. : (

The background of antique books is from an auction catalogue.  The hand holding the pen and Quink ink bottle are from a vintage magazine advertisement.  I have been cutting out fountain pens for some time now so I threw a couple more in for good measure.

    1. Thanks Josephine. This collage has a lot of depth, I think the photograph of the old books against the black & white photo of the hand makes it pop.

    1. Thanks Sabine. I also read that in the future people now going to school and not being taught penmanship will not even be able to read cursive! It will be as if they are confronted with The Dead Sea Scrolls. That is really sad!!
