From my archives. I poked around and found this: it's not Merz, but maybe it has a bit of the Merz buzz. Now I'm going to immerse my brain in bonafide Merz and see what pops out!
BTW, the title of this collage is, or was, a slogan of the United Parcel Service.
Nice image, Fi. LOL I remember that slogan for UPS!! I'm telling you this challenge is HARD for me to wrap my head around. I was on a phone call with a friend and we chatted for about and hour and a half and all the while I was ripping up a 1864 Peterson's Magazine (which was a publication for women focused on fashion and topical stories) and looking for other materials to put together for a "Merz style" collage and it was ultimately hard to commit to pasting to the piece of cardboard I found. I am a pretty structured collagist and I have found it hard to be abstract. I will revisit the cardboard and pieces of paper tomorrow and see what I can create.
ReplyDeleteI think we should make Merz collages—if that's what we choose to do—of our own time, not necessarily the early twentieth century. As for the abstract issue, that's why I said it could be an open-theme week. I've noticed that theme choosers often finish up with one that is open to anything. So if you want to make a collage about spring, whatever, just do that instead of a Merz. This blog is about having fun, not banging our heads against the wall. =smile=
DeleteYou are spot on. I think I will try another using the spring thing. But for now I just posted the piece I had been working on during the long phone call.
DeleteIn my eyes it is Schwitters´ style - good work, FI.
ReplyDeleteVery nice - I'm sure Kurt would approve!
