Theme: Monochrome
And now for something completely different... "A monochrome or monochromatic image is composed of one color (or values of one color)." It seems quite a challenge to make a collage that mainly consists of (gradations of) one color. (Unless of course you choose black/grey/white. That's easy!) I'm curious to know what you think of this theme.

ENCHANTE
In a 1906 travel guide, Lilian Whiting first used the phrase "The Land of Enchantment" to describe the western territories of the United States. New Mexico officially adopted the slogan quite recently.
Pictured on "The Badlands" -- sharply eroded buttes, spires and pinnacles and mixed-grass prairie of Southwestern South Dakota -- is a lovely lady swiped from an enchanting Maxfield Parrish painting entitled "Stars". I added the wooden horse (originally a weather vane) as a ghost-like presence that probably could not survive The Badlands. The double rainbow happened to be in the photo of said territory which added a bit of enchantment, heightened by the addition of a lovely antique dragonfly brooch.

...and a thing called LOVE! This collage was created with inspiration from the hit song entitled:
"The Birds and the Bees" released in 1964 by Jewel Akens. Find it on YouTube if you don't know it!

THEME: The Birds and the Bees

Sun or Moon - Creatures of the Dark
On the foreground creatures associated with evil and bad omens. (Collected for the theme Superstitions.) On the background Stonehenge, the prehistoric megalithic structure in England, that is aligned towards the sunrise on the summer solstice and sunset on the winter solstice.

Sun or Moon - Moonstruck
The man with the beard is Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642), the famous Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer. He build an improved telescope and was the first person who observed the lunar craters. In 1633 the roman inquisition sentenced him to lifelong house arrest for "heresy", for holding the belief that the earth revolves around the sun. It took the catholic church more than 300 years to declare Galilei was right.

SUN or MOON -- this involves BOTH!
Best seat in the house to watch the eclipse of the moon which, of course, is caused by the SUN casting the earth's shadow on the MOON.

SUN or MOON -- "Ascension"
I am currently working on a collage for this theme, but since everyone is posting such great pieces I thought I would go back into my archives. This collage was made 16 years ago! It's always been a favorite of mine,

Holiday on the Sun.
Gertrude and Harry forgot how hot it was on the sun…Gertrude was starting to think a week there was going to be too much and she shouldn’t have packed her big coat.

STAYCATION DESTINATION -- The Art Institute of Chicago
I am lucky to live in the city that includes The Art Institute of Chicago. Pictured above is "The Waterfall" 1910 by Henri Rousseau (1849-1910). This painting is in collection of the Art Institute.
Rousseau never set foot outside of France. "The Waterfall" is one of his large scale imagined jungle scenes for which he gained renown.
I have never been to a jungle. But I will don my sunhat and visit the A.I. and sit for a spell under this masterpiece and imagine I am in that jungle.
