Sir John Betjemen's Rocket
Sir John Betjemen's Rocket
How long it flew, how straight it flew, It cleared the leafy gardens And soaring disappeared from view Beyond Windsor , Brent and Morden A glorious , whizzing rocket now That's on it's way to Slough
Fun! Pretty! What a rocket! I see John Betjeman was poet laureate of England from 1972 until his death in 1984. Nice poem you wrote to go with this piece. He would have loved it.
Thanks all. Betjemen is one of my favourite poets mostly for all the wonderful films about architecture and the railways he made ( see YouTube). I stole bits of one of his poems to make mine - sorry Sir John!
Love the idea that some elderly eccentric Englishman is launching rockets from his tidy little yard...wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhooooosh—I love it!
