This intimidating pair looks like they just came out of the "slime" bucket of the boy next door. (I don't have kids, let alone grandkids and I was just made aware of the "slime" phenomenon and I couldn't help thinking about it with your creation of these "creations"!!)
The wave is congealed lava ash so the hybrid humanoides are in no danger of being covered in unpleasant stuff. (But the body of the man is made from fungi, so maybe he would not mind a bit of slimey goo..)
