On this day in history, May 6, 1840, the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the "Penny Black", is first used in Great Britain.
This is one of my all-time favorite series from the USPS. I love the gradations of color from left to right, and it's cool that they chose unusual tropical fruits for it, not the usual apple and orange.
I remember these stamps!
