PORTRAIT of D.M., 1943

I have a nifty book about Picasso that has many beautiful plates.
This is one of them, abstracted on the page that describes it!

  1. Keen concept, beautiful execution! I didn't know that Picasso had such lovely purples in his repertoire.

  2. i like the bits of writing you can pick out..."less painfully conscious" "in modern painting" "outward cast of a face"..great idea...

    1. Thank you for pointing that out, Hazel. I didn't really think at all about what words you could still read...I was more concerned with placement of pieces. Glad you liked it!

  3. Dora Maar's all gone to pieces!
Again, lovely continuation of lines of motion through this that direct your eye all over the art in a most pleasing way, which then combines with the text... especially like her right eye segment underlining the text above it.

  4. Hmmmm, I do know that I put that piece there on purpose (meaning I wanted it to underline words with that straight edge) and I just realized I was emphasizing "modern painting"! I swear, when I am making a collage I sometimes just do it and then later realize what I did!
