Theme of the Week - Homage To Max Ernst
After the Homage to Joseph Cornell I thought it would be nice to move on to another collage hero of mine and I'm sure many of yours too. I was thinking in particular the wonderful black and white collages made from old engravings. Have fun!
Werner Spies was a professor of art history at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf - my hometown :-) There is another great catalog by Werner Spies called "Max Ernst" (Prestel) - a retrocpective on the occasion of Ernst´s 100th birthday.
Great series, Michael! Keep it going...
ReplyDeleteGlad you agree Fi. Plenty more collage heroes to pay homage to!
ReplyDeleteLove him!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Viv! I have a stunning book about Ernst's collages by Werner Spies ( Thames & Hudson ) well worth getting if you see a cheapish copy.
