I had a dream of fire

This isn't some random collage I'm shoehorning into the dream theme. Like so much of my work, this is personal. I'm bipolar, and for reasons I won't go into, I had a short-lived manic episode on Saturday. By the time I was tossing and turning in bed around 1 AM, I felt as though my brain was literally on fire. When I closed my eyes, I could see inside my cranium—nothing but flames. When I finally fell asleep, I had a dream of fire. Lots of fire.

The strange-looking liquid mass in the bottom middle was captioned "runoff from nickel mining." What I wanted was lava, 'cause there was a volcano in my dream. That's the closest I could find.

The fire thoughts have lingered for days, but guess what: collage (and art in general, of course) is therapeutic. Now that I've cut out and glued down all that fire, I feel cool as a cucumber. =smile=

  1. Yikes! Your collage is a disturbing image and I am sorry you had to go through the episode of feeling your brain on fire. You certainly turned a painful life event into a powerful piece of art.

    1. I appreciate your kind words, Angie. And yet not all the fire, even in my real-life experience, was painful: That's why I included the candles and the nice little campfire. Mania... always a mixed bag.

  2. Such a powerful expression of your inner-life Fi, the volcano outburst and fireworks like a scream of hell on fire but also the warmth and the passion. I would say it could be a start of something new, lava forms new land, so new ways to create and it's also very fertile after a while.
I love the creature in the down right corner.

    1. Great notions, Jo, about new, fertile territory. Fire, of course, is essential to the health of temperate-zone forests. Clean out the old, make way for the new, right? =smile=
